We are slightly less than a month away till the end of Circuit Breaker. How have you been spending your extra time at home? There's never been a better time to pick up a new hobby. We've come up with a list of hobbies that can improve the quality of your life as well as make staying home more fun!
1. Pick up new skills with free online courses
It's the best time to learn new skills - have you always wanted to learn a new language or learn practical skills such as creating a website or managing your personal finances? There are various online classes available for free to get you started.
If content creation or creative work is your thing, check out Skillshare. You can explore thousands of inspiring classes for creative people such as courses for Adobe software programs, fundamentals of DSLR photography, iPhone photography, building a Youtube channel from scratch and many more. Not sure if it's what you're looking for? They offer a 2-month free trial for their Premium account and you can choose to continue with or cancel the plan anytime after the trial is up.
Learning isn't all boring and dull. If you're looking to pick up a new language, try out the Duolingo app. Duolingo feels like a game and with just 10 minutes a day, you’ll be surprised how well you can speak a new language 3 months from now!
2. Binge-watch Netflix series
Netflix and chill, surely you can go solo on this. Binge-watch some of our favourite series and movies like Money Heist, Suits, Billions, Kingdom, Extraction and more. Besides the entertainment value that series and movies bring us, always take some time to reflect on the messages behind the shows and be inspired too. Take a break from your hectic routine and fill your day with laughter (and perhaps even tears), they are the best medicine to release your emotions and stress that you may be feeling during this period.
3. Have fun in the kitchen

4. Tidying up your space
During this Circuit Breaker period, we have to take extra care of our personal hygiene as well as our living environment to keep ourselves and our family members safe and healthy. Cleaning the house can also help relieve stress and elevate your mood as you get rid of all the unwanted mess and dirt from your house. Who else takes pleasure in seeing a clean and sparkly space that feels more comfortable to live in after you are done with your decluttering and cleaning?
As for our shopaholic girlfriends, take this chance to clear your wardrobe to make room for more retail therapy! However, don't just dump your pre-loved away, do donate your pre-loved clothes to those in need and give your clothes a second life.
Get inspirations and tips from Marie Kondo.
5. Fitness Goal
Though all recreation centres, gyms and fitness studios are currently closed, this does not give you an excuse to get demotivated. Grab your trusty yoga mat and keep yourself active by following various Youtube fitness channels for your exercise. If you prefer going out for a jog or run at your neighbourhood park, do try to pick a non-peak period to avoid crowds.
If you're looking at a quick workout to burn your calories, try Tabatha training, one of the most popular high-intensity interval training (HIIT) which lasts only 4 minutes but it's really effective. Here's a video for the 4-minute fat burning workout - Tabata for beginners which you may find it useful.
6. Indulge in some quality family time/enjoy your 'Me-time'
Before COVID happened, most of us are always out and about and often busy with work or socialising with friends and have very little time for our family, Hence, it is the best time now to spend some quality time with the most important people in our lives. A simple act of having meals together, watching TV shows and chit-chatting can easily put smiles on their faces and create tighten bonds.
Take this time to appreciate the importance of 'Me-time' too. Disconnect from the outside world for awhile by turning your phone to air-plane mode and just do whatever you like. Get in touch with your own feelings, take a breather if things have been really tough for you. It's okay not to feel okay sometimes.
7. Retail Therapy
In need of retail therapy? Shop online! It's all just a click away!
We are so thankful for delivery services as they help to keep our daily lives going during this period of staying home. Delivery services are also practicing contactless deliveries to keep us safe so you can shop worry-free.
For our local deliveries:
- Delivery courier will call you for OTP upon delivery.
- Delivery courier will knock on the door. Step away from the door to a safe distance.
- Place parcel near doorstep or in a safe place and take photo (regardless anyone at home or not). This will help to eliminate the need for digital signature on the courier mobile devices.
Support local businesses through your retail therapy.
We are thankful for the support during this dire period. Do continue shopping with Dear Lyla so that we can continue to bring you our self-designed and exclusively manufactured pieces at affordable prices for the everyday woman.
